The Backstory
I started in the construction industry at the age of 13 working for a small, family run business, learning the various trades.
At 18 I was running my own business, subcontracting to various building companies and domestic customers, working on modern and period properties.

My carpentry undertaking was given a push through necessity when I required 18 internal doors and 3 bespoke doors and frames with glazed panels for a project.
Unable to source them I decided to make them instead, and I haven’t looked back since.
I have since undertaken various bespoke projects building bridges, gates, bus-stops, porches & garden buildings through my main day-to-day business based in Horsham. West Sussex (more info here).
JMC Rustic Creations is where I have channelled my skills into designing bespoke items for homes and gardens, such as charcuterie boards, candle & lantern holders, tables and benches.
The Process
Some of the timber used I have processed myself: felled the tree, cut it into planks using an Alaskan Mill, allowed it to dry - in a combination of air drying and using a solar powered kiln - and finally used it to construct a project.
Milling (planking) the timber myself came about as I was unable to get someone to mill them for me.
Having a ‘can-do’ attitude, I set about researching the various methods available. Cost and practicality drove me towards the Alaskan mill method.
